Aka		The chief of the Mir people
Anaemic		Lacking normal colour especially skin pigment
Ancient Magic		Original Elven Magic the understanding of which is not taught to Elves until they reach the 'Golden Age'
Anti-buffeting impactor		Drilling machine that Dragmats can't hear
Ariegeois Blacks		War horses and friends of the Noriker
Arson		Deliberately starting a fire to cause damage
Aurora Borealis		The Northern Lights can be seen from Scotland and further north
Barkus		A young brave but foolish free dog that bites the Fat Cats to cause a diversion and then scarpers
Basalt		Very hard rock formed from molten material from a volcano
Billy		A boy who lives at Bonkel Farm, the hero
Black scraggy Crow		An elf gone bad inhabiting the body of the crow
Black Well		Inside the first cave dug by the Dragmat to trap its prey
Blue Cave		Waterspout Park
Bondage		Tied up or bound
Bonkel Farm		Arable farm, miles away from anywhere, where Billy with his parents Farmer Bonkel and Mrs Bonkel live
Bully		Someone who teases or hurts other children especially weaker children. They usually do this because they are insecure
Caves		tunnels with entrance to side of the deep pit
Chinese Burn		Twisting the skin on the arm in opposite directions which really hurts and burns
Climbing Tree		Billys secret hideaway. Old spreading oak tree surrounded at the base by a ring of holly bushes.
Crop		A riding stick used to urge a horse forward or to go a little faster
Crystals		Shards of crystal that are keys to the inner caves
Cylinders		Glass tubes protecting the Zarians from the Dragmat
Dagan Mountains		Mountain Range that stretches from the Hunga Hills to the Northern Sea
Dark Shadow		The evil Crow overhead
Days of Darkness		A time when Elves and Grools were at war and many magnifient Elven heros were slain
Demisphere		The bottom half of the Hourglass where the magic star grows
Destiny		The reborn island of Skos
Dingle		One of the Elves
Dragmat		Cannibal, mechanical spider, enemy of Zarians
Dray		A platform pulled by the Noriker to take Sprunia, the crimson swallish tree back to the Elves to make into the new magic sleigh
Eagles		Controlled the gullible Fat Cats
Ebony choker		Translator device used by Billy to understand the language of the Skos
Eleanor		Girl of Billys age with dark hair and olive skin who is a sort of guardian angel. She is both kind and wise and helps Billy when he is in mortal danger
Elf		A magical little person (smaller than a boy) that has lots of powers oe enchantment. They help Santa make a deliver the toys
Enchanted Forest		Where the Swallish Trees grow
Evil Ones		The vile Crow and all its helpers
Farmer Barnes		Owns the farm next to Bonkel Farm. Very knid man and friend of Billys who sells his tractor for two golden arrows
Fat Cats		Nasty lazy cats that did what the Eagles told them for an easy life. Enslaved the cats and dogs.
Father Christmas		Santa Claus , brings presents to children the world over
Flinelf		Most senior elf
Forest of Trone		A forest to the north of the funnel
Funnel		The passage between the Norsphere and the Demisphere
Galaxy 46P		The new destination of the Zarians with similar climatic conditions to Zar
Glynn		One of the Elves
Gold Dust		Magic dust with powerful qualities for healing but also intensifying Elven magic
Golden Age		Elves if they are not killed in battle live for thousands of years, the Golden Age is when they reach the point of 'full understanding'
Golden arrows		Used by Billy to kill the Dragmat
Golden Cord		Grapple hook tied to it. Used by Flinelf to get them back up the funnel
Green Cave		Canine calling
Green Webbing		Strong protective rubberised material
Grimley		A young Elf that was trapped with the magic star
Grool		Horrid big slimy stupid troll-like creature
Grooldome		A large stone tower in Lipsin where the Grooldome is located
Hamlet		One of the Elves
Henry Satchel		The school bully
Hidiehole		A hole just above his platform in the oak tree where Billy hides his secret stuff
High Dive		The third ride in Waterspout Park where jumpers leap off a diving board wearing paracutes
Hourglass		Like an egg timer but takes an hour for the sand to pass through. But this one was a parallel world
Howler		A dog that nearly leaps out of its skin when Rufus sneaks into the camp
Hunga Hills		On the far side of the Lowlands of Welland that lead to the Dagan Mountains on the way to the Northern Sea
Incantation		Singing magic spells in an ancient language
Indigo Cave		Island of Boats
Isa		The matriach of Mir but fiercely loyal to Aka
Island of Boats		The home of the Kandoskos people
Kandoskos		The people from Skos
Kelf		One of the Elves
Kelvin or Kel		Boy with broken arm in Waterspout Park who Billy befriends
Land wind		Friend of the Sea wind that blew Billy and Eleanor on the cart through the dangerous Dagan Mountains
Lapland		Where children think that Santa is from but really he is from a parallel world
Lipsin		A dark land east of the Norsphere Mountains in the center of which is hidden the Grooldome. Lipsin is covered in stunted trees on top of which the giant slugs forage and hunt
Lord High Protector		Title bestowed upon Billy for his valiant services to the Zarians
Lowlands of Welland		The beginning of the route to the Northern Sean
Magic Star		A new one grows every ten years in the caves in the Demisphere
Mallow		Elf trapped with the magic star
Manchester United		Billys favourite football team
Marshes of Millen		Marshes on the far side of the Forest of Trone
Mir		Poor Island with few natural resourses and poor soil close to Kandoskos where the Mir people live
Mirrorsnap		trap of mirrors. Lies flat and when walked on snaps up to catch, confuse or delay the Dragmat
Misfits		Children who don't fit in to society usually bably behaved
Mountain Fall		The sixth and last ride in Waterspout Park
Multi-coloured light		The magic Rainbow
Newmir		The reborn island of Mir
Nightmare		A really frightening dream
Noidelf		The elfs name before it gave in to evil, later referred to by the others as Felon that in the elven laguage means 'fallen one'
Noriker		Breed of heavy mountain war-horses that were sure-footed, strong and hardy. They had a distinctive, dark chestnut colouring with thick curly flaxen manes and tails.
Norsphere		The top half of the Hourglass there the Grooldome is.
Nyman		Elf trapped with the magic star
One armed bandit		A slot machine found in Amuzement arcades
Orange Cave		The Cave of Dreams
Orlag		Leader of the Kandoskos
Paper tunic		Magic vest given to Billy by the Zarians, momentarily turns to stone at the point of impact
Paraglider		An open parachute that the has more control than a traditional parachute
Pindola		A peaceful waterland beyond the northern sea where the Tsagors grow ice trees
Pit		Large deep steep hole with a flat bottom
Prophecy		When the future is foretold
Quercua		Queen of the Enchanted Forest
Racecourse		The fourth ride in Waterspout Park where the horses try to unseat their riders and where Kel broke his arm
Rainbow Time		Much slower than earth time so Billy can be away for weeks and nobody notices
Red Cave		The Zarian adventure
Reindeer		Animals with antlers that guide the magic sleigh through thy sky. They don't pull it for it propells itself (Swallish magic)
Robbin		One of the Elves better at lock picking than a master burglar
Robotic Boy		In the Labyrinth where Billy has to learn to juggle
Roller Coaster		A car on parallel tracks that gosteeply up and down and round sharp corners very fast
Roop		The youngest of the Kandoskos
Rorb		A glass crystal ball that acts as a guiding light in total darkness or when Billy is lost and doesn't know which way to go.
Rubble		One of the Elves
Rufus		Brave leader of the pack of free dogs
Santa Claus		Father Christmas, brings presents to children the world over
Screeching		Noise made by a distressed Dragmat
Sea wind		A friendly wind that will in certain circumstances carry the pure of heart to Pindola where the Tsagors have their ice trees
Skos		The beautiful Island where Kandoskos had lived before they had to evacuate because of the fire caused by arson by the Mirs
Slug		These were giant flesh eating slugs that prowled the outer edges of the roof of Lipsin, stunning their prey with loud blasts and then sucking them up to the canopy
Snippet		One of the youngest Elves
Spinning Spider		The second ride in Waterspout Park
Sprunia		A crimson Swallish tree that volunteered to become Santas new sleigh
Stallion		A large strong male horse
Stone slab		A table of stone where Billy found the crystals
Strange Dialect		A strange language that Billy couldn't understand
Stratosphere		A place high above worlds which is a very boring place for a wind to be sent to
Swallish Tree		Trees with the gift and special magical qualities. A magic sleigh has to be honed from a crimson Swallish wood
Swiss Army Knife		A knife with lots of gadgets on it, originally designed for use by the Swiss Army
Tarpaulin		A heavy canvass sheet that Billy and Eleanor hid under when they were being blown along in the cart
Teamwork		When people work together sharing their skills to get a better result (there is no I in team)
Tennis Wall		The fifth ride in Waterspout Park
Thabby		Kind loyal she cat who supports Rufus
The Gift		Powers that some trees have where they can talk to Elves and help them
The Murgese		Cavalry Stallions and friends of the Noriker
The Prince on High		The name the evil Crow gave itself
The Schleswig		Like the Noriker but lighter and with smoother manes
Thwart		A plank across the centre of a boat
Timmy Tickle		Smallest boy in the class bullied by Henry Satchel
Tommy and Petra		Sent by Rufus to help Billy when he is in the water
Tsagors		A sort of windy phantom that produces enchanging music to hypnotise. It collects beautiful things to put in the ice trees for its viewing pleasure
Underground Chamber		Like a cave but much bigger
Velossimer		Zarian spaceship
Vilolet Cave		The way to the rainbow staircase that finally takes Billy home
Violin		Enchanting sound used to stupefy the Fat Cats but sounds awful to Billy
Vladimir Heavies		War horses and friends of the Noriker
Watchman		Someone who stays awake and watches out whilst everyone else sleeps
Waterspount Park		A gigantic Theme Park where naughty children go and can't get home again
Waterspout		The first ride in Waterspout Park
Weeping Willow Tree		A very thirsty tree sually found growing close to water. Has branches and foliage that umbrella down to the ground
White Dove		How Eleanor appeared when she was in Billys world
Wiff and Waff		Tommy and Petra's puppies
Winsom		One of the Elves
Yellow Cave		The Labyrinth
Yo-Yo		A wooden bobbin with a piece of string wrapped round it. A toy used by children who run the bobbin up and down the string
Zar		The home planet of the Zarians burnt out caused by the Dragmats
Zarian hunters		Zarians who call smell a Dragmat from a great distance
Zarian Vest		Magic vest given to Billy by the Zarians, momentarily turns to stone at the point of impact
Zark		Leader of the Zarians
Zombie		People who are now like dead people, lights on but nobody at home.
Zorak		A small Zarian boy that goes to get the crystals and Billys Swiss Army Knife from the pit
